About braigetori and search guide
A search engine for the small internet
braigetori is an independent search engine for Gemini space, also called Geminispace or Gemspace. Gemini is a lightweight internet protocol for text, links and personal sites called capsules. The Gemini protocol is separate from Google's Gemini AI products.
Gemini is selected by default. You can also search Gopher, Spartan and Nex with the world selectors. Search results open in a built-in web reader, so you can explore many public pages without installing an app. You can also visit braigetori using a native Gemini client.
Search tips
* Start with words about a topic you enjoy, such as gardening, poetry or programming.
* Put an exact phrase in double quotes. Use a trailing * for a word prefix or a leading - to exclude a word.
* In Gemini searches, site:example.org narrows the host, lang:de selects a language and sort:recent favours recent pages.
* Gemini filters include type:image, before:2026-01-01 and after:2025-06-01. Add format:feed to a query for its Gemini feed.
* Capitalization and accents are normalized. If an ordinary Gemini query finds nothing, spelling suggestions use words from our own index. spell:off keeps the exact spelling.
* Search shows which terms matched when no page matches every word. Useful first puts likely useful files ahead. More matches shows likely placeholders, thin files, routine logs, opaque source-history files and repeated copies; All matches includes both. Content-category links help find guides, references, directories and writing. Labels are estimates, and nothing is deleted.
An independent, changing index
The engine discovers published links with polite crawlers and maintains separate indexes for the four protocols. Gemini ranking considers relevant text, titles, links and their persistence. Exact and near-identical copies remain accessible under More matches and All matches. Bounded offline reviews of public text supplement local content signals; no search query is sent to a model. Indexed URLs are not counts of unique articles or people; a server address does not identify a unique owner. Coverage is incomplete and changes as capsules appear, move or go offline.
The public observatory provides observed counts, histories and downloadable datasets. Its statistics describe our index, not the entire internet or the size of a community. Missing observations are not zero. Search remains separate from optional weather and artwork.
Browsing and privacy
The embedded reader runs an actual Gemini client in your browser, using OpenSSL and TLS. A restricted relay carries encrypted network traffic. Capsule text is rendered in your tab; remote scripts never run. Ordinary and private prompts, temporary identities and file downloads are supported. Capsules see the relay's network address. There is nothing to install.
The embedded client displays user-requested pages locally rather than publishing web-proxy copies. A separate script-free relay remains available and respects capsule webproxy exclusions. Capsules may still be offline, reject the shared network address or require an existing identity. Temporary identities last only in the current tab; a separate client is optional for permanent account management.
There is no advertising or visitor-profile analytics. Public search statistics use limited aggregate categories, not stored complete search phrases or unique visitor counts. Display preferences and optional artwork/weather have their own handling, described in the privacy policy.
